Sony BRAVIA 52 Inch Projection TV Screen 1080p 240Hz LCD HDTV

Love the HD picture quality (PQ) of the Samsung 52B750, but don’t watch TV in cave and don’t want to deal with all those reflections off a glossy screen? Well, the Sony 52Z5100 projection TV screen is the answer. HD PQ with the Z5100 is excellent with great black levels, but without the “shaving mirror” reflectivity of the screen during dark or black scenes.

We were looking at the 52B750 projection TV screen, based on reviews and seeing it at UE, but after testing our viewing room at various times of day with a glass picture frame and our “bright screen” LCD notebook, it was obvious that the reflections would drive us crazy over the life of the TV.

We have two older HDTVs, both with matte screen and we don’t miss the reflective glass screens of the old CRT TVs. The 52Z5100’s projection TV screen is best described as semi-matte. Un-powered, the screen is reflective though dull. Power it up and there are essentially zero reflections, even with very dark scenes.

• What ever Sony has done to defeat reflectivity and minimize glare, it works very well.

As to performance, PQ with HD sources (OTA DTV and Dish HD) is as good as it gets, absolutely excellent and easily equal to the Samsung B750 projection TV screen. Blacks are excellent and shadow detail is the best I’ve seen on a TV. No flashlights, clouding, or uneven lighting across the screen.

Color realism and saturation are excellent. Viewing angle is average or typical of CCFL LCDs, which is about 45 degrees off center. Not bad and much better than the LED LCDs, which could be important if you plan to show off your new HDTV with a Super Bowl party next February.

We’re just thrilled watching Starz and Cinemax HD movies, prime-time HD drama on the major networks, any live HD broadcasts, and especially any live HD sporting even broadcasts. The WOW factor is back! Can’t wait for the NFL season to start.

We watched the men’s and women’s French Open finals via live, OTA, HD DTV, with the Scene setting set to “Sports (MotionFlow on High, 240 Hz) and it was like we were standing behind Roger Federer on the court. BTW, the on-board ATSC digital tuner in the Z5100 is excellent.

It is obviously of the latest generation as it is the most sensitive and most stable of any of our DTV tuners, including the Zenith CECBs we bought for our old, remaining CRT TVs. If you buy the 52Z5100, try hooking up an antenna to it and see what you can get. The uncompressed live HD from an OTA antenna is something to behold.

PQ from non-BD DVDs is excellent. Upscaled DVD movies on my Sony 1080p upscaling DVD player look as good as many of the HD movies on the pay HD movie channels. I don’t have a BD player yet and with the PQ of my upscaled DVDs, I probably won’t get one until the price drops substantially.

PQ from SD sources is a mixed bag. It really depends on the source. Decent 480i stuff comes across excellent, but some older video and movies look pretty bad and the MPEG Filter and CineMotion filter don’t do much to help regardless of which setting you use. I’d give this set Average to a little above average on SD PQ. Using the MPEG filter set to Medium or Low improves bad SD video over no filter at all.

I’d rate the on-board sound system as above average for flat panel HDTV sound systems, even though I typically us the sound from my DD7.1 sound system. I don’t do games, so I can’t comment on that.

As for the internet connectivity, I’m not impressed. I’ve surfed through most of what is offered and it isn’t worth much. A nice universal remote comes with the set. On-screen menu is poorly arranged (not intuitive, not logical, redundant in places).

Overall, I can’t see anyone being disappointed if they buy this projection TV screen and your friends will be impressed as well.

Panasonic VIERA S1 Series TC-L32S1 32-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV (46% Off)

How attractive the Panasonic 32 inch projection tv screen.

The Panasonic TC-L32s1 is a 32″ viera 1080p LCD HDTV projection tv. It offers the best picture quality and aesthetics I’ve seen in the ~$400 price range.

It looks like a premium model should, with only the significant thickness of the display marring the sleek and modern look.  The buttons feel cheap and are somewhere between rubbery and hard plastic. It gives on odd feel to the remote control, unpleasantly so. Still, the functions of the remote work well, even if there are too many buttons with little function or practical use. Navigating menus is simple enough with the remote, but the menus should have been designed more intuitively.

OF course what matters is the picture quality. This is where the S1 shines. It has a powerful backlight that allows the Projection TV screen to output a bright enough picture for any lighting environment. The contrast is great for a tv in this price range and the 1080p max resoltion is a great feature for those planning to use this tv as a computer display or want to sit up close playing PS3 or xbox 360.

The Projection TV screen picture was held back by lack of 120 Hz technology, although motion handling was decent for a 60 Hz set. Another weak area is the lack of white balance or color settings. These are usually offered in more high-end models, but would have allowed proper calibration (less than 10 delta error on grayscale) of this tv without service menu access. WIth service menu accesss.

This Projection TV screen should calibrate well though as RGB levels were relatively flat across grayscale. It was nice to have a 100 point scale for backlight adjustment, but probably unneccessary. One tip: set your color tone to Warm Mode.

Sound was competent, but as with most TV’s, you’ll benefit from external speakers. The average consumer will probably be happy with the sound. I had no trouble getting ample volume out of this TV, contrary to some other Panasonic Viera Television Projection reviews.

How Amazing the Panasonic LCD Projection TV Screen is?

I read somewhere that the size of the LCD projection TV one should buy should be based on the distance (in inches) from the projection TV screen to where you’ll be sitting; divided by 2.5. After measuring the distance, I came up with 80″, divided by 2.5 and it comes out to 32 inches. A 32″ LCD projection TV would have been perfect but too big for the stand I wanted it to sit on, so I settled for this panasonic projection TV screen and I’m a happy camper! Besides, it would have been beyond my budget! I do wonder however if this is just another advertising ploy to sell you a larger projection tv? I think that dividing the distance by 3 works out just as well.

In comparison, the Sony has a softer smoother image while the picture on this panasonic projection TV screen is more vivid and has more contrast. Having worked at a large Electronic Store, I have noticed that most people prefer a brighter more contrasting image when it comes to projection TVs and monitors. I still prefer the Sony because the picture (to me) is a bit more realistic but that’s just a minor complaint.

One concern was choosing between a 1080P and 720P monitor. But from what I’ve been told, it makes a difference on a larger TV (40″ or more), but not so much with the smaller projection tv screen. I tend to agree with that since it’s all about the number of pixels (dots), the distance between each pixel and their size.
Another concern was whether to purchase a new DVD player. Hooking up an old standard DVD player to an HDTV projection didn’t make any sense. So I had to consider a Blu Ray or an up-converting DVD player. That was an easy decision since we have about 2000 standard DVD’s. Replacing all those with the Blu Ray equivalent would get costly (about 10-20 grand), so an up converting DVD player was the obvious choice

Panasonic Viera 32 LCD HDTV Projection TV Screen Reviews

The Panasonic TC-32S1 projection tv screen is a great tv for a great price. I have had the tv for about two weeks now. I have a Mac Mini serving up DVDs, Hulu, Netflix and some other video streams as well as recordings using the HD Homerun from Silicon Dust, and it all looks great.

I also have a Wii nentendo hooked up with component, and it is the one source that doesn’t look as good as I expected. Some of the anti-aliasing looks jagged on the Mii’s but it’s not a deal breaker. The projection tv screen has independent calibration setting for each input, which is a huge plus over many of the competitors for this size and price category.

I sit about 8ft from the projection tv screen, and the picture looks beautiful, even on content with compression artifacts. One third of one pixel is stuck, but it can’t be seen more than 2ft away from screen. The IPS LCD Projection tv is great, I can see the screen from all areas of the living room, though if you are standing (often while playing Wii nentendo ) you do loose a bit of the contrast, but the further you move back from the projection tv screen, the better the viewing angle and so the better the picture performance. Also, we have a lot of ambient light from the many windows, and the LCD Projection tv is very clear and visible even with direct sunlight.

The SD slot is a nice feature, but it is only setup to play back picture files and update the firmware (however, the SD card must be formatted with proprietary software from Panasonic projection tv screen and only works with Windows XP and Vista).

All in all, it is a great LCD Projection tv. I would recommend for someone who is hooking up to a computer (but use an HDMI or DVI-HDMI connection if you want full 1080p resolution).

How to different choices in Samsung 40 inch Projection TV Screen.

I purchased this LCD projection tv on a smokin’ hot deal from the Brick (buyer beware the Brick do not always allow returns) as we had a credit on account and needed to use it up we went ahead and purchased from the Brick. The Samsung LN40B530 LCD projection tv is a second TV that goes in our bedroom. It was easy to hookup. I only had a cable box and a DVD player to plug in, both are HDMI so it was a snap.

I replaced the remote with a Sony Universal Remote which replaces the 3 remotes to run everything else. I love the Sound Mode, SRS, Picture Size and Picture Mode buttons on the remote and programed them onto the Universal Remote. P.MODE button changes the Picture Quality (PQ) in an instance, I love this LCD projection tv feature as you can rotate through the different choices as quick as you can click your remote, the same is true of the other 3 buttons mentioned.

The picture is fantastic. My wife was amazed with the PQ. I have viewed the Samsung LN40B530 LCD projection tv against other TVs with faster refresh rates and higher priced at the different box stores. Personally I feel the PQ is as good as other higher priced TVs with the faster refresh rates.

If you are price concise, this LCD projection tv is to be considered. One of the first things I noticed when I started watching this projection  TV screen was the clarity and vibrant colors. I remember in the first day or two of getting the LCD projection tv, I was watching a show, I don’t remember which one it was, but I remember thinking, look at the hair on the arms of that girl, that is how good the clarity is on this TV. The PQ is awesome. I love the rich vibrant colors.

One negative item, when ever I see a label of HD on a program, I assume it is 1080 however the signal may only be 720 or less. On my Sony all I have to do to check this out is hit my info button on the projection tv screen remote and it would display 1080 or 720 or whatever it may be, however with the Samsung it always shows 1080 even when watching non HD programs. I have scanned the manual and haven’t yet found where the correct info can be displayed. Personally if the PQ is not 1080 I would rather watch something else that is 1080 projection tv screen .

If you can not differentiate the PQ of this LCD projection tv from that of other TVs with faster refresh rates or if you watch little or no sports, don’t be taken in with all the hype of the faster refresh rates and buy this LCD projection tv and you will do yourself a favour and save yourself $100s of dollars.

How to Fix VIZIO 55-Inch TruLED 240 Hz Projection HDTV Screen

• After doing a lot of research and wanting the best picture I could get with out breaking the bank, I decided on the VIZIO VF551XVT LCD Projection TV.
• There are some people who will tell you to go with a Plasma projection TV screen because you can get a lot more Flat Panel Television for less money than a LCD, especially a LED Back lit TV.
  Their right, except, what no one mentions is that unless you can control the light in your room where the LCD Projection TV will be placed you will get horrible reflections because most Plasma projection TV screen have very glossy reflective screens.
• Most (not all) LCD Projection TV have a matte screen and usually do much better in a standard well lit living room like mine.
• Also I should mention that Plasma projection TV screen are generally much heaver to mount and consume a great deal more electricity than this TV does.
• This is Plasma projection TV screen dirty little secret. The VIZIO VF551XVT LCD Projection TV is a bright LED back lit TV that will work well in a totally dark or well lit room.
• As for the picture, I bought a VIZIO VBR100 Blu-ray Player to go with it and the picture is stunning! I won’t go into a lot of technical details but suffice to say this LCD Projection TV will have all the adjustments that you need even if you want to calibrate the picture as I did.
• Another poster mentioned the sound as being terrible, I don’t think it’s that bad? it’s not an audio system it’s a high end LCD Projection TV, most people will use a surround sound system for great sound, but not to worry the Vizio’s sound is just fine for casual TV watching.
• For those of you who will use the included remote it’s a nice back lit multifunction remote control.
  There have been some people complaining about the fact that this LCD Projection TV is 4.961″ inches thick! I have never understood the obsession with supper thin?
• Yes you can get a super thin Samsung Plasma projection TV screen at about $500 more! that’s $100 a inch to look at the Flat Panel Television side ways and brag to your friends? weird but OK.
• As for me I have never been happier with a TV than I am now. Got mine for $1876 at Sams Club (sorry Amazon) and I highly recommend this LCD Projection TV, you will not be sorry.

Have you seen the New Vizio 32 LCD Flat Panel Projection TV.

The new Vizio LCD flat panel tv -Line is a considerable improvement over previous models, which were specifically designed for economy and not so much performance.

Vizio LCD flat panel tv has done the unthinkable and focused on performance all the while lowering the costs to just about nothing allowing us mere mortals the opportunity (finally!) to purchase a strong vizio 32 lcd hdtv at a price we can afford.

Now keep in mind that the standard resolution on the Vizios is still 720p and not 1080p (see Vizio’s Java Series if you want a 32-inch in 1080p)) so it’s not true-high definition.

The vizio LCD flat panel tv description states 1080i, but remember that it is only a simulated up-conversion (hence the “i” for interlaced) so it’s not all that important.

Besides, most human eyes cannot differentiate 1080p in 37-inch screens on down anyway since the resolution is too highly compacted on smaller screens.

Now, the  vizio LCD flat panel tv sports a considerably higher contrast ratio (15,000 dynamic) compared to the older models capping out around 2,000. Now, I know contrast ratio is arbitrary to the corporation making the screen, however, they do remain consistent within said companies so a switch from 2,000-15,000 is a quantum leap in quality.

The differences between darks and brights is a lot more apparent, giving the picture more differentiation between the colors and presenting a more accurate picture for audiences. The hertz is still 60 Hz over the more popularized 120 Hz, but again, it’s a 32′ and not a 47′ or a 55′.

Now, the vizio 32 lcd hdtv does sport the usual refinements of its predecessors. My personal favorite is how it kept the scratch and impact-resistant screen cover. It can withstand anything short of a direct hit (and no, that is NOT a challenge) from babies throwing small objects to light impact from moving it around.
